Invisalign offers several advantages over conventional braces. The braces, or aligners, are hardly visible so no one can tell you are wearing them. There are no wires or brackets to cause mouth abrasions. The aligners are removable so you can take them out to eat, brush your teeth, and floss. Lastly, Invisalign is comfortable because it is made specifically to fit your teeth.
Invisalign works differently than conventional braces. You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Every two weeks, you will replace the aligner with the next in the series. Your teeth will move a bit at a time until they have shifted to the final position your dentist has prescribed.
Your visits to the dentist are less frequent than with conventional braces. Approximately every four to six weeks you will meet with your dentist to ensure that the treatment is progressing as planned.
Metal brackets can take years to straighten teeth. The Invisalign system takes about nine to fifteen months with patient compliance.
